Building capacity to enhance social dialogue in the Western Balkan countries

OBJAVLJENO: 20.9.2007.

Aim of the meeting:

The European Commission is organising a conference on Social Dialogue in the Western Balkans to take place in Belgrade in October 2007. The conference is addressed to social partners and public authorities responsible for social dialogue from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo (as defined by the UN Security Council Resolution 1244). The Commissioner of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Vladimir Spidla, will also participate in this event.

The goal of the Conference will be to exchange views about the elements that make social dialogue successful, and to reinforce links between European social partners and their counterparts in the Balkans. The Conference will also address the Memorandum of Understanding related to the Energy Treaty. This event is complementary with the social dialogue conference that will take place in Portugal in November 2007, bringing together labour and industry from 27 Member States. Globally, challenges and perspectives of social dialogue will be discussed with social partners and public authorities from more than 32 countries in Europe.
